NCCC collects four wins; Barberio tosses no-hitter

Niagara County Community College won four key Region III Western Division games this past weekend at Sal Maglie Stadium. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Div. III polls, are now 36-7 overall and 21-4 in regional play. NCCC will close out its regular-season schedule at 2 p.m. Tuesday with a trip to Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

Niagara CCC 8, Genesee CC 3

Sophomore Gunner Becker improved to 6-1 on the season as he tossed 6.1 innings and allowed just three hits with seven strikeouts. Classmate Troy Banks was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and fellow second-year infielder Manny Montes was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Niagara CCC 3, Genesee CC 0

Sophomore Keegan Ernest moved to 5-2 on the season as he allowed just four hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort. Sophomore Matt Kruszka led the offense as he went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Niagara CCC 5, Corning CC 0

Freshman Erik Johnson ran his record to 6-1 as he struck out 13 in a complete-game victory. Sophomore Joe Barberio was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Niagara CCC 10, Corning CC 0

Barberio threw a six-inning no-hitter with eight Ks. Sophomore Kyle LaPlante was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, classmate Vincent Chiarenza was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs scored, second-year standout Garrett Boldt added two RBIs and sophomore Bryan Rivera chipped in with a double, triple and three runs scored.
