Freshman Lead the Way to Pair of Volleyball Victories

The Spring 2021 volleyball season finally kicked off for Coastal Bend College as they traveled to mid Texas for pair of matches with host Ranger College and Seminole State College (OK).  The Cougars first scheduled match with Temple College was postponed last Friday.

A triumphant of rookies led the way for the Cougars as they played the role of poor guests taking a three sets to one victory over Ranger College to start the day, before sweeping Seminole State in the follow-up contest.

Freshman Odalys Gonzalez led CBC pounding down 32 kills in the two matches (21 versus Ranger and 11 versus SSC).  Fellow outside hitting freshman Watta Kanneh knocked down 22 kills herself, while middle blocker Renata Dominguez racked up 11 points with seven kills and four blocks.

The elder statesmen played a big role as well, with sophomore libero Meadow Rodriguez corralling 51 digs on the weekend (23 and 28 respectively), while setter Leandra Miranda dished out 69 assists over the course of the two matches.

The Cougars are back on the road Monday when they start Region XIV competition in Carthage vs. the 18th ranked Panola College.
