Men’s Cross Country Places 15th at the NJCAA Championship
SUNY Erie cross country concluded the 2023 season at the NJCAA Division III Championships, held at the John Hunt Park Cross Country Course in Huntsville, Alabama.
A total of 29 institutions were represented in the men's 8k championship. SUNY Erie placed 15th out of 16 scoring teams (minimum of five finishers). Sam May followed up on his All-Region 3 performance by placing in the top 50 nationally. His time of 29:56 earned May 49th place and a personal best by over a minute. Mark Zeder (98th, 34:28) and Chad Kapturowski (99th, 34:30) worked together from the gun, both setting personal bests. The next three in for Erie were Brendan Terrill (114th, 37:49, personal best), Aidan Terrill (115th, 38:49), and Eugene Bush (119th, 39:34).
In the women's 5k championship, Sonya Krezmien led the way for Erie, finishing 31st place in 22:26. Maid Baird crossed the line in 24:12 to secure 47th place. Plamedi Mutombo placed 97th in 39:27.
"I'm very proud of how we competed today," said Head Coach Chris Muldoon. "In a championship race, sometimes you have to out a little harder to get into the right position. I thought both the men and women did that well and then fought hard the rest of the way. Overall, we saw excellent improvement throughout the season, so hopefully, we can use that momentum and get to the next level in 2024."
