NJCAA Community Impact Spotlight: 2025-26 Second Quarter
Charlotte, NC – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recognizes and celebrates the contributions numerous NJCAA member institutions are making in their local communities. The NJCAA 2025-26 Second Quarter Community Impact Spotlight is the Delaware County Community College (PA) athletic department.
Delaware County Community College Athletics emphasizes community service as part of fostering student-athletes' character development, leadership, and social responsibility as well as an opportunity to give back to the communities that support the College.
In November 2025, the Phantoms' baseball team in partnership with the Keith Dawson Foundation and Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna McClinton, successfully organized a turkey drive at Bell Avenue Elementary in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. The event provided over 2,500 Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need, bringing holiday cheer and meaningful impact to many local households.
"I'm incredibly proud of our team's effort in making the turkey drive a success," Delaware County Head Baseball Coach, Andre Solomon, shared. "Seeing the impact we made, together with the Keith Dawson Foundation and Representative McClinton, at Bell Avenue Elementary is truly heartwarming. It's a reminder that our role extends beyond the field, and giving back to the community is a responsibility we embrace."
In December 2025, DCCC track and field student-athletes and coaches volunteered as race marshals at Radnor Memorial Library's Elves for the Shelves 5K, Fun Run & Walk. In its 12th year, the event boasted 746 registered participants and raised over $70,720 for the library.
"It was great to support such a good cause and to see the turnout," DCCC student-athlete, Fatumata Kaba, commented. "I was able to encourage a lot of participants whether they were leading the race or running or walking for fun, and I met and talked with a lot of good people."
"Connecting with the community and witnessing the joy on the faces of families who may not otherwise be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal brings fulfillment not only to our Athletic Department, but to our institution as a whole," Delaware County Athletic Director, Dwayne Saunders, expressed. "Volunteering and service are what it's all about - community giving back to community. Here at Delaware County Community College Athletics, we make it a priority to invest in and uplift the same community that continues to support us. The positivity and joy we are able to share remind us that service has the power to create meaningful impact and truly make the world a better place."
