NJCAA announces 2022-23 Academic Teams of the Year

Charlotte, NC - The NJCAA has announced the 2022-23 Academic Teams of the Year.  NJCAA student-athletes continued to excel in the classroom as 1,078 teams earned at least a 3.0 GPA or better.

30 programs from across the country earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors after achieving the highest GPA in their respective sport throughout the academic year.

Eight programs emerged as repeat winners from the 2021-22 academic year: Northwest Kansas Tech men's half marathon, Monroe College (NY) men's indoor track & field, Mineral Area (MO) women's indoor track & field, Monroe College (NY) men's outdoor track & field, Oxford Emory (GA) men's soccer, Southwestern Oregon men's swimming & diving, Southwestern Oregon women's swimming & diving, and Pratt (KS) men's wrestling.

The Odessa (TX) women's golf team earned the highest overall GPA in the NJCAA with a 3.96 mark.  Five NJCAA member colleges earned multiple team champion awards including Monroe College (NY), Northwest Kansas Tech, Southwestern Oregon, and Wallace State-Hanceville (AL).  

Three programs displayed outstanding success in athletics and academics, claiming a national title and being named the Academic Team of the Year in their respective sport. Northwest Kansas Tech's men's half marathon team earned a 3.92 cumulative GPA.  In November, the Mavericks claimed the program's first NJCAA Men's Half Marathon national title by placing three runners within the top 10 finishers.  Anne Arundel's (MD) women's lacrosse team boasted a 3.13 GPA in the classroom this academic year.  On the field, the Riverhawks completed the season with an undefeated record and claimed the third NJCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship title in program history, their first since 2007.  Palm Beach State's (FL) beach volleyball team ended the 2022-23 academic year with a 3.68 cumulative GPA.  The Panthers also claimed the first-ever NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championship title, sweeping all opponents over the course of the three-day inaugural event.
