Lapp Vincennes capture individual team titles

Chautauqua, NY – Vincennes (IN) posted three of the five lowest team round scores over the final three rounds to capture the 2018 NJCAA DIII Men's Golf National Championship at the Chautauqua Golf Club. The title is the third in program history for the Trailblazers.

After shooting a 318 in the opening round, Vincennes fired back with scores of 307-305-307 for a 1237 final score to hold off a late charge from Sandhills (NC). The Flyers shot a 304 in the final round for a 1249 while Georgia Military placed third with a team score of 1260. The Bulldogs boasted the lowest score of the four-day event with a 303 in the second round.

While Vincennes pulled away on the team leaderboard, Tompkins Cortland's (NY) Daniel Lapp saved the best overall performance for the final round as the sophomore fired a 4-under 68 on Friday to secure the individual championship with a 5-over 293. Over the final two rounds, Lapp tallied a 3-under to become just the second individual champion in Panther program history.

  • Vincennes' team title joins the 2013 and 2016 Trailblazer programs with national championships.
  • The Trailblazers were led by Keegan McCullough who finished fourth with a 305. Teammates Zach Breault and Zach Hall finished 11th and 12th, respectively to pace the champions.
  • Lapp joins former Panther Kris Boyes (2008) as individual national champions. Lapp's 293 topped Boyes' 295 championship performance.
  • Lapp registered two eagles to go along with nine birdies and a tournament-best 45 pars to pull away from the field.
  • Sandhills was led by Chris Kraft's team-best 307 and Brady Childers who fired a 1-under 70 in the final round to cap a four-round score of 309.
  • Bobby Davenport of Mohawk Valley (NY) placed second overall with a 14-over 302 followed by Mason Landborg of Minnesota State who fired 16-over 302.
  • Landborg recorded the lowest Par 5 scoring of the week with a 7-under.
  • The field fired a total of one double eagle, 11 eagles, and 387 birdies throughout the week 6,559 yard, Par 72 Chautauqua Golf Club.
