Iowa Central clinches its first national championship

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – The NJCAA men’s bowling championship was corralled by Iowa Central for its first national bowling title in program history.

  • As a unit, Iowa Central tallied 13,536 points – almost 200 more pins than second-place Highland’s (Kan.) 13,338. Rounding out the top-five team finishes were Erie (N.Y.) with 12,480, Schenectady County (N.Y.) with 12,239 and Mohawk Valley (N.Y.) with 11,969.

  • Iowa Central freshman Brandon Freese took home the all-events championship, finishing with a 2,552-pin total. Sophomore teammate Logan Williams placed second, accumulating 2,531 points.

  • Freese also garnered a share of the doubles championship with Williams. Freese tossed 684 in three games, while Williams added 677 for a team total of 1,361 points.

  • Freese’s 684 series during doubles-competition was the highest three-game series of the tournament. Also during doubles, he pitched an individual tournament record 289 – passing Anthony Fairbanks’ of Westmoreland County (Pa.) who hit the 279 mark in 2009.
