Kirkwood's Wilson is Spalding® DII Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC - Doug Wilson has been named the 2019 Spalding NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

Leading Kirkwood to its third national title in program history, the Eagles' big man cemented his spot as the top player with a 30-point, 15-rebound performance in the national championship game. Wilson finished in double-figure scoring in all but two of the Eagles' 34 games this season.

"Doug was completely bought into our program and becoming the best leader he could be for our team," said Kirkwood head coach Bryan Petersen. "He was relentless in doing what it took for our team to win and by doing that consistently he became the best player in the NJCAA."

Wilson's next stop will take him to South Dakota State in Brookings, SD. The Jackrabbits have been to the NCAA DI Men's Basketball Championship tournament five times since 2012.

Wilson's reaction

"Thank you to the NJCAA for honoring me with this prestigious award. There are a lot of great players in the NJCAA and I am humbled to receive this award. First, I want to thank my mom and family for always believing in me and supporting me. I also want to thank my coaches, my team, and the entire Kirkwood family. Without them, this would not have been possible."
