Lorensen tagged as Spalding® DII MBB Coach of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After leading Southwestern (IA) to the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship – its first national title of any kind in school history - head coach Todd Lorensen has been honored as the 2017 Spalding® NJCAA Coach of the Year by the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee.

In just his third season at the helm, Lorensen guided Southwestern to the No. 1 overall seed in the 2017 NJCAA DII Men’s Basketball Championship. Once in Danville, the Spartans averaged 84 points a contest and defeated their opponents by an average margin of 15.7 points. The Spartans capped off their championship season with a 13-game winning streak and an overall record of 36-1.

Under Lorensen’s leadership, Southwestern has an overall mark of 84-17 over the past three seasons, including a 27-9 record against Region 11 opponents.

Before joining Southwestern, Lorensen was the head coach at Iowa Wesleyan of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and assisted at Truman State (MO), Nebraska-Omaha and Grandview University (IA).
