COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The first NJCAA Player of the Week awards were announce on Thursday afternoon by the national office. This week's recipients were honored for the play between August 22-September 3.
Iowa Western got off to a strong start this season with a pair of wins behind the play of two freshmen. Quarterback Kurt Walding, this week's NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week helped the Reivers beat Independence (KS) and Hutchinson (KS) on the offensive side while defensive end Chester Graves was named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week after racking up five tackles for loss and forcing two fumbles against Hutchinson. Sophomore Coby Oswalt of Pima (AZ) went 12-12 on extra point attempts and added a field goal in a lopsided win for the Aztecs.
