Evangelista Hurls Complete Game to Lead Roadrunner Baseball to Split With No. 1-Ranked Cumberland

In the highly anticipated weekend three-game series between the two top-ranked junior college baseball teams in the country, the results pretty much yielded a draw.

In Saturday's doubleheader, No. 2 RCGC split with top-ranked Cumberland County College, but the Roadrunners gained plenty of positives nonetheless.

In Game 1,  freshman pitcher Nick Evangelista (Washington Twp.) went the distance, surrendering just one run in nine innings, as the Roadunners posted a 4-1 triumph over the top-ranked Dukes.

In game 2, freshman Nick Yoder (Highland Regional) took the loss, but he pitched well, scattering three hits in the 3-2 defeat. Freshman Jose Ledesma (Passaic) also pitched well in relief.

"Timely hitting and two-out RBIs win games. We had them in our win and left runners stranded in the loss," said head coach Rob Valli. "We are happy with the way all three of our freshman pitched in both ends of the doubleader."

On Friday RCGC held a 3-2 lead over the visiting Dukes before the game was halted due to rain in the sixth inning. The outcome will be decided at a later date.

Valli's team will next host Mercer Community College on Wednesday in a 3:30 pm start.
