Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scotties fall short in Season Opening Tournament

Story Links

The Highland Men's basketball team fell short over the weekend losing by five points to Barton County Friday night and by three to Washburn JV Saturday afternoon.

With a re-vamped squad from last year's Conference Championship team, coach Cole was looking to some newcomers to step up.

Holden Redparth, sophomore transfer from Monroe College, did just that as he led in scoring both nights scoring 26 points Friday night and 23 points Saturday.

The Scotties looked sharp against Division 1 Barton County shooting 51% from the floor and 43% from three-point land in the first half taking a 3-point lead into the locker room.

The Cougars cam our firing piecing together a 16-6 run to take a 55-48 lead over Highland with 13:40 to play in the game.

Highland would scrap their way back tying the game up at 66 a piece with 6:13 to play but a Barton layup and three-pointer back to back would give Barton back the five-point cushion.

The Scotties had a chance to tie the game with :18 seconds left but the shot came up short and Barton went on to win 81-76.

Redparth led in scoring with 26 points and nine rebounds. He was followed by Alonzo Williams who added 15 points. Ryan Haskins finished the night with 10 points and six assists.

Saturday's script was much different on the offensive side of the ball for the Scotties. Highland only shot 33% from the floor and 21% from behind the arc.

Highland struggled to find rhythm offensively turning the ball over 23 times to the Ichabods.

Three Washburn players scored in double figures while only one got to double digits for Highland. That player was Holden Redparth who finished the night with a double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Haskins, Alonzo Williams and Leland Harvey each had seven points and Harvery grabbed 10 rebounds.

Highland will look to get their first win of the season in their home opener on Tuesday, November 8th as they play host to Ottawa University JV at 7:30pm in Ben Allen Field House.
