Golden Eagles halt MCC women's six-game win streak

CHEYENNE, Wyo. Laramie County Community College ended McCook Community College's six-game win streak Friday with an 84-56 win to give the Golden Eagles a five-game win streak of their own.

"We didn't come ready to play, our preparation wasn't there before the game, and that's on me to figure out and get them on track," said MCC Coach Brandon Pritchett. "Laramie played really well, they came out and shot the ball well. We have been really solid defensively all year, but we struggled to guard tonight."

The Golden Eagles shot 45.5 percent from the field, made seven of 17 3-pointers (41.2 percent) and shot 81 percent from the line on 21 foul shots.

MCC shot 33.0 percent from the field, made seven of 21 shots from beyond the 3-point line and just nine of 16 free throws (56.3 percent). The Lady Indians turned the ball over 26 times and were out-rebounded 47-36.

Freshman Gail Whiting (Montgomery, Ala.) led the Lady Indian scoring with 16 points off the bench and nine rebounds. Sophomore Paula Rosello Mateu, (Barcelona, Spain) scored 12 points.

"For as bad as we were, I thought Gail had a solid game and did everything she could to help us out," Pritchett said.

Sophomore Nicola Cross (Melbourne, Australia) marked her return to the lineup with a 10 point night off the bench.
LCCC improves to 7-3.

"This team has depth, but we lack consistency. Once we figure out how to be consistent every time we step on the floor we will be hard to beat," Pritchett said.

MCC falls to 10-2 and looks to close out the semester and avenge its lone loss on the season at Torrington to take on the 4-5 Lady Lancers Saturday.
