The Lakers men's basketball team fell 92-88 to the Lorain County CC Commodores Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-14 overall and 2-9 in the OCCAC. The Commodores shot 50% from the field and 42% from the three point line. The key however, was shooting almost 79% from the free throw line; including 3 critical ones with under a minute to play to help earn the victory. This was a tight game that the commodores led throughout. In the first half, they had up to a 9 point lead with under 10 to play and then finished the half with a 7 point edge as they hit a 3 pointer with eight seconds left. The game was a seesaw battle from there, but the Lakers were never able to rake the lead. Lorain County would go ahead by 5-7 points repeatedly followed by the Lakers cutting the lead from 1-3 points repeatedly. In the end, the free throws down the stretch just did not allow the Lakers enough time to overtake the Commodores. For the Lakers, freshmen Jeramie Burge and Trevon Granger led the way offensively with 25 and 23 points respectively. Freshman Crysjawn Waters and Da'ron Falkner also had big games as Waters contributed 20 points and 5 rebounds while Falkner scored 13 points and had 9 rebounds. Sophomore Jeff Nevulis led both teams with 13 rebounds.

The Lakeland's next game is this Saturday, Feb. 18, as they will play host to the Clark State Eagles in a 3 p.m. scheduled tilt. Admission is free to the game.
