Women Finish first half of season undefeated

The Highland Women's basketball team entered Winter Break with a perfect 16-0 undefeated record after a 105-39 victory over Missouri Southern State University JV.

The Scotties defeated the Lions 80-47 earlier in the season but struggled in the first half and actually trailed at halftime in Joplin back in November. This time around, the Lions hung in for the first quarter (18-15) but Highland outscored the Lions by 28-points in the second and took a 52-23 lead into halftime.

They ran away with the second half holding the Lions to just 16 total points while piling up 53. Highland went on to get win number 16 on the season with a 105-39 victory, the Scotties ninth 100-point game this season.

Berniezha Tidwell had a great game scoring 31-points, 25 of which came in the first half. She also had eight steals and five assists. Mariane De Caravalho finished with 18-points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Niccolly Ramalho recorded her fourth double-double this season with 13-points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals. Kamryn Lemon was the other Scottie in double figures with 14-points and five assists.

The tenacious Highland defense was all over the place Saturday forcing 43 turnovers and recording 21 steals while scoring 58-points off of Missouri Southern turnovers. They held the Lions to just 27% shooting from the floor and 29% from the three-point line.

The No. 7 Highland Scotties head into Winter Break with a perfect 16-0 record. They are back in action Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at home taking on Native Dream at 1:00pm.
