Cougars Fall Close at Home

Beeville, Tx-  The Jacksonville College Jaguars rolled into town on Wednesday, February 5th for a Region XIV Conference matchup with the Cougars. Coastal Bend Women's Basketball looked ot build off last game's success over Bossier Parish Community College, heading into the game. 

Coastal Bend and Jacksonville both took turns scoring the ball in the first quarter, but it was CBC with a slight edge. Guard, Aubrey Guerra hit a three right a the buzzer to give the Cougars a 14-17 lead.

In the second quarter, the Jaguars went on a bit of run and regained the lead. The Cougars trailed at the break, 31-29.

After halftime, both ball clubs struggled to find the basket for a bit. Following the scoring drought, JC managed to tack on to their lead at the end of the frame, 41-35.

During the fourth quarter, Coastal Bend tightened up their defensive play which translated well for their offense. The Cougars scored 14 points in the frame but fel one point short of taking the game into overtime. CBC lost to Jacksonville by a final score of 50-49.

Coastal Bend Guard, Marley Martinez led the team in scoring with 17 points. Martinez also recorded three rebounds and four assists for the game. Cassie Hogan came up huge for CBC with 10 points off the bench. She also tallied up six rebounds and two assists. Guerra finished the game with eight points while recording six rebounds and three assists for the Cougars.


CBC will be back at home on Saturday, February 8th as they host Angelina College for a Region XIV Conference Game. Tip-Off is schedulded for 2:00 PM in the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center.
