Erie Swimming Qualifies Several for National Championships
Erie's Men's and Women's swim teams hosted their first home meet on November 9th and competed against Monroe, Genesee and Jamestown.
For the second straight swim meet, Erie qualified numerous swimmers for the National Championships in Florida which take place in March 2024 in sixteen events.
For the Erie women, Isabella DeMeo finished first in the 100 free (1:07.16 NJCAA QT), second in the 50 free (30.08 NJCAA QT) and second in the 50 breast (39.86 NJCAA QT). Allyson Koedel placed second in the 500 free (7:45.72), third in the 200 free (2:51.78), fifth in the 50 breast (44.75).
For the Erie men, Alec Sedki placed third in the 100 free (52.23 NJCAA QT) and fourth in the 50 free (23.95 NJCAA QT). Leo Wasch was second in the 50 back (30.93 NJCAA QT) and third in the 50 free (23.90 NJCAA QT). Stu Jensen placed third in the 50 breast (32.71 NJCAA QT) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:19.97 NJCAA QT). Ryan Nebrich won the 50 back (27.97 NJCAA QT) and placed second in the 200 free (1:57.16 NJCAA QT). Josh Wier was fifth in the 50 breast (35.45 NJCAA QT) and sixth in the 50 free (26.52 NJCAA QT). Ayden Walker finished fourth in the 100 free (1:00.51 NJCAA QT) and fifth in the 50 free (26.47 NJCAA QT). Nate Setlock was second in the 1000 free (13:51.51) and fifth in the 50 back (35.92). Felipe Sabogal placed tenth in the 100 free (1:19.10) and eleventh in the 50 free (33.83).
Both of ERIE'S relays qualified two relays for the National Championships. The 200 medley relay was second (1:50.81 NJCAA QT) comprised of Sedki, Jensen, Nebrich and Wasch) and the 200 free relay finished second (1:56.91 NJCAA QT) with the quartet of Wier, Walker, Setlock and Sabogal.
The Kats will be traveling to Jamestown Community college for their next swim meet on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 starting at 6:00pm.
