MOHAWK VALLEY NIPS GENERALS IN REGION III FINALS REMATCH

UTICA, NY — Freshman guard Keyshawn Miller squeezed the corner of his lips and interlocked his fingers behind his head as he walked toward the visitor's locker room following a 66-64 loss to MVCC.

It was a game he, and the rest of the General team had been antsy for, calling it, 'A game that felt like playing in high school again.'

The Mohawk Valley & Herkimer fanbases came out in full support, pouring into the sideline bleachers standing shoulder-by-shoulder booming with noise, supporting their respective schools.

Shades of disappointment, frustration, and anger filled the 8-by-14-foot dressing room that Herkimer found themselves at following the loss.

"If you're not upset; something is wrong with you," Head Coach Matt Lee told his team after the game.

Herkimer (1-1) jumped out to a 47-to-36 lead in the first 10:17 of the second half, but squandered that lead when Mohawk Valley went on a 14-0 run in the next 5:27 of the game. Once Mohawk Valley (2-0) took the lead, they never looked back. Leading by as many as eight with less than a minute left. Mohawk Valley made five-of-six free throws in the last 30 seconds, and fought off the feisty Generals, who hit 3 three-pointers in the final 25 seconds of the game.

Freshman guards Shykell Brown (Rochester) led the Generals in scoring with 17 points and Jaylen Warmack (Utica-Notre Dame) added 16.

All 11 players scored at least two points for Herkimer.

"It's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit, added Miller. We have to move forward because that's how winning is done. We all know our worth as a team, and now we have to go out and show what we're worth."

The Generals next game is their home-opener on Saturday, November 9th at 3 p.m. versus Hudson Valley Community College.
