After a progressive fall season, the CVC Baseball Team looks to go to the next level in 2017. The Suns will be led by All-Metro Athletic Conference sophomores Shannon Broussard (LHP/OF), Tylor Frailey (OF), and Alex Garcia (LHP/1B). The trio were named Texas-New Mexico Junior College All-Stars in the off-season and Broussard threw a no-hitter for the Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods Summer Baseball League.
CVC Head Baseball Coach Robert Dally is excited for the return of the stunning sophomores. "The return of Broussard, Frailey, and Garcia is huge for our program. These guys get it. They come in, get it done in and out of the classroom, play ball and have fun doing it! Each one of them have their own unique way of leading. I am excited about this upcoming year and feel we are going to compete," says Dally.
After posting a 18-35 overall record, 8-22 in conference, Dally hit the recruiting trail hard bringing together a strong class for his 2017 campaign. New Suns expected to make an immediate impact include J.J. Veloz Jr. (SS - Dallas, TX / Dr. John Horn HS), Alex Bush (OF - Rowlett, TX / Sachse HS), and Alex Rivera (C - Fort Worth, TX / Eastern Hills HS).
Coach Dally who enters his eleventh season at CVC, tenth as the leader of the program, already sees the bond that is being formed with this season's team.
"As opening day grows closer, I believe what sticks out more about this team is that they like each other. Surprisingly enough, they like each other and know we have good team," says Dally.
The Suns will start the journey to the NJCAA Division III World Series on the road, when they travel to face Southwestern University (J.V.) in a double header on Tuesday, February 7 and then head to Hillsboro, where they will face Hill College on Wednesday, Febraury 8.
