Commodores Split Matches at Grand Rapids Tournament

The Volleyball Team travelled to Grand Rapids Community College for their annual invitational on Saturday & Sunday, 9/26-27/2015. Against tough competition, the Commodores left Michigan with a 2-2 record. On Saturday, the team played Vincennes University and won in a close 5 set match (29-27, 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13) before taking on host Grand Rapids CC and losing in 5 sets after being down 0-2 (18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 10-15).

After dinner at BW3 and a good night's sleep, the team took the floor first thing Sunday morning to battle Oakland CC for a 3 set victory (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) and Lansing CC for a 4 set loss (21-25, 25-15, 23-25, 26-28).

The team played hard with everyone helping out throughout the weekend. Pacing the team on the offensive side for the weekend was Emily Mandoke with 69 kills (4.06 kills/set) and Maryssa Kellick with 60 kills (3.53 kills/set). Kady Whitsel lead the team in aces with 10 and assists with 118 from the passing of the three amigos - Ali Stanziano (132), Mandoke (78), and Lindsay Eisbrenner (64). On the defensive side, Stanziano had 73 digs, Whitsel had 65 digs, and Mandoke added 45 digs, while on the net saw Kellick blocking for 12 kill blocks. The team is home on Wednesday night against Tri-C, Friday night against Edison, and Saturday morning against Clark State. Come catch a game!
