The Edison State Men's Basketball Team extended their record to 10-4 on Saturday afternoon by defeating the Hawks of Hocking College on the road 89-83.
"I knew it was going to be a tough game by seeing their scores of prior opponents. They are a very athletic and talented group of young men," Coach Hickman commented of the Hawks team.
Edison State nurtured a 9 point lead going into intermission but saw that lead completely vanish as the Hawks tied the score at 52 at the 15:32 mark of the second half.
"We have struggled at times forcing quick shots as seen in the first five minutes of this second half, but I am extremely proud of how our young men regrouped and finished strong as a team," added Coach Hickman.
The Chargers regained the lead and extended it to as much as 10 points with under 5 minutes to play. Hocking made yet another run at the Chargers and pulled the game to 3 points, but down the stretch, the Chargers were near perfect from the line going 7 for 8 from the strip with under a minute to play giving the chargers their 10th win on the year.
Dae'Shawn Jackson (Springfield HS) led all scores with 22 points. Hadith Tiggs ( Wayne HS) and Christopher Landrum, II (Troy Christian HS) had 18 and 16 points respectively. A.J. Hickman (Miami East HS) added 11 points and Zach Ledbetter (Vandalia HS) had 10 points for the Chargers.
The Chargers will be on the road Wednesday, January 18th to take on Owens Community College at 7:30 p.m.
