#3 Lady Apaches Stop #4 Navarro

No. 3 Tyler Junior College defeated No. 4 Navarro in decisive fashion 4-0 on Monday at Pat Hartley Soccer Complex.

The Apache Ladies were able to jump out to an early lead in front of the home fans, taking just over five minutes to find the net for their first goal.

Freshman Sydney Tiiman led the offense with two goals in the game. Tiiman converted the first goal for TJC finishing an assist from midfielder Vanessa Luna. She was able to corral the lob pass and shoot from just outside of the penalty box, scoring with 39:47 left in the first half.

TJC controlled the possession for most of the first half; however Navarro was able to make several attacking runs. The Lady Bulldogs were able to draw a free kick one yard outside of the penalty box. Leah Fish was able to make the save for the Apache Ladies on a direct shot preserving the shutout.

With 20:40 left in the first half, Jennifer Trejo was able to connect for a second TJC goal after her attempted cross went off the keepers arms and into the goal.

Maria Bofi added the fourth Tyler score shooting across goal into the corner of the net, stretching the lead to 4-0 with 15:34 left to play. The Apache Ladies were able to attempt 14 shots, with five shots on goal.

Defensively, Tyler was able to hold the Lady Bulldogs to 11 total shots allowing only two shots on goal in the match. Riley Miller, Ayana Williams, Kellus Darby, Moriah Phillips and Audresha Spates were able to hold strong defensively for TJC.

TJC (10-0-1, 4-0 Region XIV) will host Jacksonville College at 5 p.m. on Oct. 7.

The Lady Bulldogs fall to 6-3-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.
