KIRTLAND, Ohio – The Lakeland Community College volleyball team was in action Friday (September 9th) as they split a pair of matches on the opening day of the Shannon Lee McBride Memorial Tournament.
The Lakers opened the day with a 5 set victory over conference opponent Columbus State Community College. Lakeland won the first set, 25-18 before dropping the next two frames. The Lakers regained their early momentum and went on to take the fourth and fifth sets, 25-17 and 15-13 respectively. Lakeland was led by Nicolette Waite (Willoughby Hills, Ohio / Willoughby South) and Brittany O'Hara (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) as both registered double digit digs. The offense was led by Cary Morin (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) as she had a team high seven kills and an ace. Alissa Quick (Beavercreek, Ohio / Breavercreek) also pitched in with three solo blocks for the Lakers.
Lakeland fell in their second match of the night to Oakland Community College. The Lakers fell in straight sets, 25-13, 25-16, and 25-20. The Lakers were led by the defense of O'Hara as she led the way with a game high 15 digs. Also pitching in on defense was Waite as she recorded 12 digs in the match. Offensively Lakeland was led by Olivia Mancisio (Willoughby, Ohio / Kirtland) as she tallied four kills and a solo block in the match.
The Lakers will return to the court tomorrow (September 10th) when they wrap up the McBride tournament against Lansing Community College and Mercyhurst Northeast.
