Men's Hoops Drops Close Game Against Jaguars

Beeville, Tx- Coastal Bend College would face Jacksonville College on Wednesday, January 16th for their first Region XIV Conference matchup of the season. The Cougars have been battling for thier first win of 2019 and have been chopping at the bit just as of late but on the losing end of games. 

CBC started the contest off hot, jumping out to a 19-5 lead over Jacksonville. As time proceeded to runout in the first half, so did the 14 point lead that the Cougars once held. Coastal Bend cooled off from three point land and had defensive lapses that put them behind at the break, 30-35. 

The second half started well for the Cougars as they quickly erased the five point deficit from the first half. Both ball clubs would fight back and forth for the lead during a good portion of game time in the second half of play. The Jaguars took a eight point lead over the Cougars with about seven minutes remaining in regulation. The Cougars made adjustments on both sides of the court to pull with in one point, 60-61. After an empty possession on offense for CBC, Jacksonville hit an outside jumper to increase their lead, 60-63. Coastal Bend called a timeout with 13 seconds left in the game and drew up a play for a potential game tying three pointer. The three point attempt was no good as the ball hit the back iron of the rim. Coastal Bend ended up losing by a final score of 60-63. 

CBC Guard, Gerald Thomas led the team in scoring with 16 points while collecting two rebounds and two assists for the contest. Point Guard, Brian Payton knocked in 11 points to go with his team highs in four assists and four steals. Guard, Royce Hunter netted 11 points off the bench for the Cougars. Center, Elijah Moleon made his prescence felt in the paint, with eight points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. 

Coastal Bend will be the second half of the Double-Header for Saturday's (1/19/19) slate as they host Southwest Texas Junior College at 4:00 PM
