LCCC Travels to Southern Ohio for Three Tough Conference Matches

September 5, 2015 - The LCCC Volleyball Team traveled to southern Ohio this weekend and fought hard but came away with a 1-2 record in conference play. Friday night's match was against Edison CC which LCCC won 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-23). Leading the way to victory in kills were sophomores' Kady Whitsel (11 kills) and Emily Mandoke (10 kills). Whitsel, Mandoke, and Maryssa Kellick each had two service aces apiece. Kellick also controlled the net during the match with 5 block kills. In the defensive side, there were four players in double digits for digs, Ali Stanziano (13), Whitsel (12), Lindsay Eisbrenner (11), and Mandoke (10). Stanziano, Mandoke, and Eisbrenner combined for a 2.59 serve receive to keep the offense working smoothly.

Saturday morning saw the team playing Cincinnati State for the second time this year but again came out on the short end, losing 1-3 in a match that could have gone either way (26-28, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25). The offensive leaders in kills for LCCC were Mandoke (18 kills) and Kellick (15 kills) along with 4 service aces for Kellick. Defensively, Stanziano lead with 32 digs, with Whitsel (18) and Mandoke (16) pitching in to give the team more opportunities on offense. Unfortunately, there were just too many errors to overcome and Cincinnati State out hustled LCCC for the win.

The team jumped back on the bus for an afternoon match against Sinclair CC. After a quick start taking set one, LCCC lost the next three sets for a 1-3 finish to a tough road trip (25-22, 15-25, 20-25, 22-25). Mandoke (16) and Whitsel (12) paced the offense in kills, as well as leading in digs on the defensive side (Mandoke with 17 and Whitsel with 16). In this close match, the Commodores just couldn't beat a much improved Sinclair team with the number of errors committed. Their overall record now stands at 6-3 for the season.
