Aztec Football Gets Shut Out at Arizona Western College

The Pima Community College football team (1-1, 0-1 in WSFL) struggled to put points on the board on Saturday as the Aztecs opened WSFL/ACCAC conference play.

The Aztecs fell 20-0 at No. 5 ranked Arizona Western College in Yuma.

Down 7-0 to begin the third quarter, freshman quarterback Justin Martin (Pueblo HS) threw an interception and fumbled on Pima's first two possessions. The Matadors took advantage of the miscues and turned them into points outscoring the Aztecs 13-0 for the quarter.

The Aztecs were able to move the ball and gain good field position but turnovers costed them as they finished with five for the game.

In the first quarter, from the Arizona Western 21-yardline, Martin had a pass tipped in the air and intercepted. The Aztecs had a field goal blocked and a punt blocked which set up Arizona Western's first touchdown.

The Aztecs had a chance in the fourth quarter to put points on the board as they took over at the Arizona Western 39-yardline after a bad punt. James Crider caught a 21-yard pass but the Aztecs were forced to turn the ball over on downs.

After the first half, the Aztecs had 98 yards of offense and Martin had nine carries for 45 yards.

The Aztecs will host their home opener next Saturday at Kino North Stadium against Scottsdale Community College at 7:00 p.m.
