Softball's season comes to an end on first day of Region I Tournament

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Softball team saw its 2024 season come to an end on the first day of the Region I Tournament on Friday afternoon in Thatcher, Ariz., losing game one 6-4 to Pima before falling to the host Eastern Arizona 11-1 in six innings.

Jayleen Espinoza drove in two runs with a double as the Lady Matadors scored four of the first five runs in the first game of the day.

The Lady Matadors jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Pima scored five runs over the final two innings to come from behind to win game one.

Madison Morgan drove in a run for the Lady Matadors, accounting for the third of three RBIs the Lady Matadors had in the loss, scoring a run on an error in a two-run fifth inning.

Jessie Garcia and GiGi Garcia each doubled in an 11-1 loss to Eastern Arizona in game two of the day, ending the Lady Matadors season.

The Lady Matadors scored their lone run of the game on an error in the fifth inning before the Gila Monsters scored eight runs in the sixth to end the game.
