Trojans win season series with Hutch
The four-set victory moves CCC to 20-1
The Colby Community College volleyball team got a crucial Jayhawk Conference road win after taking down Hutchinson for the second time this season Monday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. After dropping the first set 24-26, the Trojans won the next three with scores of 25-20, 26-24 and 25-20.
Wins in Hutch have been hard to come by in recent years, as the victory marks the first time since 2011 the Trojans have swept the regular season series with the Blue Dragons.
"This was a really important win for us to get on the road," said Colby head coach Carey Jones. "We passed well all night and served aggressively."
Julie Archer led the Trojans with 17 kills and Alex Merle added 15. Kyndal Bacon totaled 43 assists and three of the team's 10 service aces.
"We also made some adjustments defensively," Jones said. "We were able to dig some balls we haven't been getting to in previous matches."
The adjustments paid off, as Merle, Nina Gorgijevska, Bacon, Karissa Winkel and Archer all reached double figures in digs. At the net, Milica Djukic had seven block assists.
This weekend No. 16 CCC takes their 20-1 overall record on the road to play in a non-conference tournament in Iowa. In the conference, the Trojans remain in second place at 11-1 behind ninth-ranked Seward County.
