Box Score 3 After an 11-3 game three victory over Fort Scott, the Highland softball team is headed to Topeka, KS to compete in the Region VI, District D four-team double elimination tournament this weekend.

After splitting with the Greyhounds on Tuesday afternoon, the Scotties had to play a deciding game three on Wednesday, just their second time since 2009 to take Round one into a third game.

Fort Scott took an early 1-0 lead after Hayley Bledsoe hit an RBI single in the top of the first inning.

After a four-pitch, three out inning offensively for Highland in the first, they got things moving in the second scoring seven runs to take a 7-0 lead after two innings of play. RBI's in the inning came from
Kennadi Barron,
Sam Moran,
Sydney Anderson and
Aubry Hernandez.

The Hounds tacked on another run in the third after an Aubrey Smith RBI double.
Maddy Miller answered right back with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning giving Highland the 8-2 lead.

Sydney Anderson would score in the fourth on an error by the Greyhound catcher after a rundown in between third and home. Fort Scott scored their third and final run of the game in the sixth with a Taylor Brecheisen solo homerun.

Kaori Corn hit a leadoff single in the bottom of six to get it started for the Scotties.
Aubry Hernandez took her first pitch at bat then crushed the second over the fence for a run-rule walk off homerun. Highland won the game in six innings 11-3 over Fort Scott ending their season at 23-33.
Aubry Hernandez finished the game 2-4 with three RBI's and one run scored.
Sydney Anderson and
Sam Moran finished the day with two RBI's a piece.

Highland now advances to the four-team, double elimination District D tournament at Hummer Park in Topeka, KS. They will take on Region 2 champion, Murray State College out of Tishomingo, Oklahoma at 10:00am on Saturday. Win or lose, the Scotties will play at 2:00pm Saturday afternoon.

The Highland Community College Alumni Association will be tailgating at the games on Saturday. Please stop by the tents (look for the Highland flags) and enjoy a free hot dog.
