Men’s Basketball wins 10th consecutive over Lazers

(Herkimer's Dantre Langhorne connects on a jumper in the second half of Saturday's win over Onondaga).

HERKIMER, NY – Aided by 43 combined points by Jamell Johnson (Rochester, NY) and Dantre Langhorne (Greenport, NY), the Herkimer Generals collected their 10th consecutive win Saturday (12/13), defeating Onondaga 98-85 on their home court.

Herkimer (10-1, 3-0) jumped out to a 10 point lead within the game's first five minutes (19-9) after Johnson connected on two three-point field goals and an 'and one' call. Sophomore Ken Woodard (Bronx, NY) then brought the varsity gym to their feet when he connected on an alley oop from Carson Murphy (Mohawk, NY), dunking the ball over an Onondaga defender for Herkimer's first double digit lead.

It ballooned to 22 points after the Generals went on another run, aided by a six points from Julio Galay (Bronx, NY), two three-point field goals from Murphy and Mike Santillo (Mohawk, NY) and a couple free throws by Woodard, going into the half with a 56-37 lead.

The Lazers shooting kept them in the game, hitting 13 from deep which helped cut the deficit to eight points (82-74) with six minutes left, but Herkimer ended the game outscoring Onondaga 16-11, capping the final three minutes of regulation with more play from above the rim with two alley oops from Murphy and Johnson, plus a Langhorne dunk, giving Herkimer their fifth consecutive win over Mid-State Athletic Conference competition.

Herkimer's next game won't come until the spring semester when they host Fulton-Montgomery Community College Thursday, January 8th. The Raiders are 7-4, losing their last two game after a season-high six game win streak. Game time in the varsity gym is scheduled for 6 p.m.
