Nagel’s walk-off HR caps Chargers’ comeback win vs. Black Hawk

GALESBURG — Maleaha Nagel capped a huge Game 1 with a walk-off home run to help the Carl Sandburg College softball team split an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Tuesday against Black Hawk on Paint the Field Red Day at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

KEY MOMENTS
• Sandburg trailed 7-0 going into the bottom of the third, but the Chargers rallied to take a 10-9 lead in the fifth and tie the game at 12 in the sixth. Trailing 12-10, Ava Ruggles lined a single to left that glanced off the left fielder's glove and brought in two to tie the game.
• After Mary Hellige held the Braves off the board in the top of the seventh, Nagel stepped to the plate with one out and drove a 1-1 pitch the opposite way over the right field wall for the game-winner.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Nagel's heroics punctuated a monster game at the plate. She finished 4 for 5, doubled, scored four times and drove in four. Her third-inning double drove in two to get the Chargers on the board. The sophomore first baseman had an RBI single in the fifth and led off the sixth with a base hit.

KEY MOMENT
Black Hawk connected for a pair of home runs in a five-run third inning that pushed the Braves' lead to 6-0.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Ryan was the only Charger to collect multiple hits in the nightcap, finishing 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI single in the fifth.

WEDNESDAY VS. SOUTHEASTERN CANCELED
The Chargers' doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday vs. Southeastern has been canceled and won't be rescheduled.
