Cyclones win Region XIII Tournament, Advance to College World Series in Greeneville, TN

It took 2 games, but the Cyclones defeated Century in the Region XIII Championship game 5-0. Luis Massa and Logan Aleshire were named Tournament MVP's.

In Game one, Century came out swinging and showed why they were the 8th ranked team in the country coming into the tournament.  Hunter Malachek got the start for the Cyclones.  The Wood Ducks defeated the Cyclones 13-6 forcing a winner take all matchup.  

 

In Game 2, this was a pitchers duel between the Cyclone's Logan Aleshire and the Wood Ducks Joe Wehr.  The Cyclones broke through with the game's first run in the second inning when Jinkins came around to score on an errant throw by a Wood Duck infielder.  The score remained 1-0 until the 8th inning when Cyclone Third baseman Carlos Reyes scorched a homerun over the left field fence.  The Cyclones would tack on 3 more in the ninth on a Matt Quade bases clearing double.  Logan Aleshire went the distance allowing 4 hits.  

For their efforts, Logan Aleshire and Luis Massa were named the Region 13 Most Valuable Players.  

 

With the championship, the Cyclones advance to the 2018 NJCAA D3 World Series in Greeneville, TN.  The Cyclones await their seed and opponent while other regions complete their qualifying tournament.  This will be the Cyclones 3rd trip to world series, they previously qualified in 2012 and 2014 when the tournament was held in Tyler, Texas.
