Lady Wolves rack up the points against Coahoma

CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College lit up the scoreboard at Coahoma Thursday night as Co-Lin grabbed a 101-54 victory. The win moved the Lady Wolves to 3-0 on the season and the Lady Tigers of Coahoma to 0-4. The Lady Wolves offense was dominant throughout the game as Co-Lin shot 48 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point land. 

"We shot the ball from the outside well tonight, and got ahead early," said Lady Wolves' coach Gwyn Young. "We had some steals and got out in front and never let up for the rest of the game. We also played several off the bench and that helped wear them down a bit."

The Lady Wolves started the game hot as Co-Lin leapt out to a 9-0 lead. Co-Lin continued to stretch that lead throughout the first half and led by 14 midway through the second period.

Co-Lin turned up the defensive pressure for the remainder of the first half and the score reflected that intensity. The Lady Wolves went on a 19-4 run over the final seven minutes to take a 47-22 lead into the locker room.

The Lady Wolves' offense exploded in the third quarter as Co-Lin went 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. The Lady Wolves out scored the Lady Tigers 27-14 in the third quarter alone to stretch their lead to 74-36 heading into the final quarter.

The strong offense and impressive defensive performance continued to the final whistle as the Lady Wolves added another 27 points in the fourth.

Brittany Rose, a sophomore who came off the bench, led the Lady Wolves in scoring with 20 points. Rose was 8-for-11 from the floor and 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. T'Kyra Hicks added 16 points and led Co-Lin with six assists. Alexandria Patton rounded out Co-Lin's top scores with 10 points. Kiara Bolton and Diamond Smith led the Lady Wolves on the boards with six rebounds apiece. Smith posted a team high four blocks and Karry Callahan had three steals.

Walneika Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 21 points. Lameka President added 16 points and five rebounds, while Geneva Walker rattled in 10 points. Nikkeria Harris led Coahoma in rebounds with 11.

Co-Lin shot 48 percent (42-for-87) from the field, 40 percent (8-for-20) from the three-point line, and 60 percent (9-for-15) from the foul stripe. The Lady Tigers finished the night shooting 27 percent (19-for-70) from the field, 27 percent (6-for-22) from beyond the arc, and 36 percent (10-for-28) from the free throw line.

The Lady Wolves are back in action Monday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. as Co-Lin travels to Summit, Miss. to take part in the Southwest Mississippi
