Highland Women's Basketball Wraps Up Non-Conference Play With Convincing Win Over Gogebic

The #3 Highland Women's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference slate of their schedule by cruising past Gogebic Community College 113-41 to improve to 16-1 on the season.

Scotties opened the contest slow leading only 6-2 over the first three and half minutes of the ballgame but would control most of the game the rest of the way. Highland took a double figure lead for the first time at 14-4 with 4:43 on the clock in the first quarter and the Scotties finished the first stanza on a 19-0 run to lead 31-4 after one period. The lead continue to blossom in the second quarter all the way to as high as 43 and the Scotties carried a 60-20 lead into intermission.

In the second half the Scotties continued to stymie Gogebic and force multiple turnovers pushing their lead to 50 by the end of the third quarter. The Scotties hit the century mark for the sixth time in a game this season and third straight game when Erin Randle made a layup with 4:50 remaining in the game and went on to claim the 113-41 win.

Offensively the Scotties shot 56.8% from the floor and recorded 31 assists on 46 made field goals, while also out rebounding Gogebic 50-26. Scotties forced 39 turnovers giving the team their 10 game this season with forcing 30+ turnovers and did so by recording 20 steals in the win, however Highland did turnover the ball over 24 times themselves in the win. Gogebic in the loss shot just 24.6% from the floor and 13.8% from three-point range.

Six Scottie players posted double figures led by Janiya Davis who tallied 19 points on 6-10 shooting and 6-8 performance from the free throw line adding four rebounds. Daisah Purnell hit five three-pointers to finish with 18 points and added four rebounds and three steals. Stefania Chiziane scored 15 points in the win, while Tuana Dinc filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Tiana Gipson posted 12 points and make a career best with eight assists, while Randle tied her career high with 10 points and had seven rebounds. Keondra White was also strong finishing with seven points six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Highland now turns their attention Conference play in the KJCCC for the rest of the regular season and the #3 Scotties are set to open KJCCC action on Wednesday, January 23rd at #1 Johnson County Community College with a tipoff set for 5:30pm.
