Highland Women's Basketball Wins Top 10 Battle With KCK

The #7 Highland women's basketball team avenged another Conference loss and remained in the race for the KJCCC title and a top two finish in the Conference which comes with a first round bye in Regionals.

Scotties started strong and used that lead to hold off Kansas City Kansas CC to pick up a 94-88 win avenging their loss to the Blue Devils earlier in February in a game that featured plenty of whistles having eight players foul out, with 65 fouls called and 106 combined free throws shot.

The win moves the Scotties to 22-4 on the season and gives them a 6-3 KJCCC record, while stretching their home win streak to 36-straight games.

Highland rattled off a 5-0 start to the game and took their first double figure lead at 22-11 with 1:39 left in the first quarter and finished the first quarter up 25-14 with a Tiana Gipson three-pointer capping the frame. Scotties started the game 9-11 from the field, while KCK was just 3-12 from the field in the first quarter. The start of the second quarter saw KCK put together a 6-0 start to the quarter and the lead was cut to five the Scotties had an answer and grew the lead back to double figures going up by as many as 15 points and leading 45-35 at the half.

The lead was dwindled down in the second half all the way down to two points at 52-50 with 3:31 left in the third quarter but that would be the closest KCK would get in the game as the Scotties led 63-58 after three quarters and secured the game in the fourth quarter to win 94-88.

A 51% night from the floor helped Highland earn the win marking the 10th time this season shooting 50+% in a game. Scotties set season highs for free throws attempted and made in a game this season going 37-53 from the charity stripe, while KCK was also 37-53 from the line.

Eighty of the teams 94 points on the night came from the starting five with Stefania Chiziane leading the charge with a career best 32 points on 8-12 shooting and a 15-22 night from the free throw line. Chiziane added five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Gipson dropped 25 points on 7-11 shooting and going 8-8 from the free throw line, while Janiya Davis scored 11 points. Tuana Dinc posted eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
