With both teams showcasing incredible offensive firepower, it was the Greyhounds' defense that came through in the second half for a 122-104 victory Saturday against Region 2 rival North Arkansas College at Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison.
Offensively, both teams shot the ball well as the Greyhounds shot 55.8% from the field and 43.3% from the three-point line while the Pioneers were 54.1% from the field and 37.0% from the arc. The Greyhounds, however, took the advantage by forcing 20 turnovers while committing only seven for the contest.
ASU Mid-South (19-5) led by as many as 14 points in the first half as Terrandus Smith scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the first frame. But North Arkansas battled back to cut the lead to 58-54 at the break. The second half, however, saw the Greyhounds race out of the gate and lead by as many as 32 points as they cruised to their fifth win in a row. The Pioneers surpassed their average of 102 points per game while hitting 10 three-pointers, but ASU Mid-South countered by hitting 13 three's and scoring a season-high 122 points, their tenth game in triple digits.
Terrikous Smith scored 15 points to go with a game-high six steals, Dee Montgomery finished with 14 points, Montee Randle and Jerrick Cole hit for 12 each, K.J. Patrick scored 11, and Geordan Reed chipped in 10 points as seven Greyhounds hit for double figures. Patrick and Randle each pulled down seven rebounds, and Shaheed Halk dished out eight assists.
The Greyhounds, currently ranked #19 in the nation, go for win number 20 Monday at Williams Baptist College before returning to The Dog House Thursday in a double-header against National Park College. The women begin the action at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
