Achievement Award
Reserved for recognizing superior athletic success, the Achievement Award is presented to a former NJCAA student-athlete that has displayed outstanding ability in national, professional, Olympic or international competition while also displaying excellent ethical character. Saudia Roundtree – Kilgore College (TX)
Saudia Roundtree began her collegiate basketball career at NJCAA member Kilgore College. She played for the Rangers for one season in 1994 and earned NJCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year honors. After Kilgore, Roundtree continued to pursue her dream of playing collegiate basketball and transferred to the University of Georgia.
At the University of Georgia, Roundtree accumulated several accolades including Naismith College Player of the Year, United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Year, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Player of the Year and was named to the Final Four All-Tournament team. Roundtree was also an All-American and led the 1995 and 1996 team to the Final Four as well as the 1996 SEC Championship. In 1996 she was named National Player of the Year as well as the SEC Player of the Year and in 1997 received an Espy Award for the Best Female College Basketball Player.
Finding great success at the collegiate level, Rountree continued her career in the American Basketball League (ABL) where she played three seasons including two seasons with the Atlanta Glory and one season with the Nashville Noise. During this time, she was an ABL All-Star. After retiring from basketball, Roundtree began her coaching career at Morris Brown College where she stayed for one year and then went on to be the head women's basketball coach at North Carolina A&T University from 2002-2005. She later made her way to the University of Alabama where she was a member of the coaching staff before becoming an assistant coach at the University of Central Florida in 2006.
