NJCAA Announces 2018-19 Academic Teams of the Year

Charlotte, NC – 28 programs have been recognized as the 2018-19 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year after achieving the highest GPA in their respective sport throughout the academic year.

All 27 NJCAA certified sports were recognized with a team champion. Women's Outdoor Track and Field featured a tie at the top of the list to round out the 28 team winners. Seven programs repeated as Academic Teams of the Year, including Daytona State's (FL) Baseball program who achieved the top GPA across all NJCAA baseball programs for the eighth consecutive year with a cumulative GPA of 3.78. Pratt (KS) was named the top academic wrestling program for the seventh consecutive year with a 3.19 team mark.

The Copiah-Lincoln (MS) Women's Tennis program boasted the top overall team GPA with an impressive mark of 3.79. Three programs were named Academic Teams of the Year for the performance in the classroom while also earning a NJCAA Championship for their athletic achievements. El Paso (TX) Men's and Women's Half Marathon swept the national championship and Academic Team of the Year honor while Indian River State (FL) topped both the athletic and academic titles. 

A total of 738 programs earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The 2018-19 year marks the third consecutive year that at least 730 teams achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher. NJCAA Softball programs were well-represented as 131 programs earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, the most among any NJCAA sports.
