Evaluating HS credentials of non-U.S. students

To meet the entrance eligibility requirements of the NJCAA, a student must be a graduate of a high school with an “academic diploma, general education diploma or a state department of education approved high school equivalency exam."  

For those schools located in the United States, making this determination is fairly easy.  On the other hand, when evaluating high school credentials from a country other than the United States this task becomes more cumbersome.

When evaluating high school credentials from a country other than the United States, the NJCAA is looking for verification that the credentials a student possesses is equivalent to that of a high school graduate in the United States.  A recommended resource for making this determination is the NCAA Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility, which can be accessed via the internet by simply conducting an internet search of the publication title.

In the case where the credentials are in a language other than English, the credentials must be translated and a copy of the translated credentials must be included in the member college’s audit packet.
